The reason the oil pump driver which has been known to fail needs to be replaced and upgraded is that the original one can shear in two, resulting in a catastrophic loss of oil pressure. Don't let this happen to you! Unlike many other internal engine components that require complete engine disassembly for replacement, the oil pump drive is accessible from the oil pump console on the front of the engine and should be upgraded on any engine that will see track use.
