After seeing a customer's freshly rebuilt track car engine blow up because of a failed oil pump drive, LN Engineering decided to manufacture a heat treated, shot-peened, chromoly oil pump hex drive to replace the inferior, non-heat treated mild-steel factory pump driver for all M96 and M97 engines from 1997 through 2008. The reason the oil pump driver which has been known to fail needs to be replaced and upgraded is that the original one can shear in two, resulting in a catastrophic loss of oil pressure. Don't let this happen to you! Unlike many other internal engine components that require complete engine disassembly for replacement, the oil pump drive is accessible from the oil pump console on the front of the engine and should be upgraded on any engine that will see track use.
